Studebaker
1963 model range
By 1963 the venerable Studebaker Corporation of South Bend,
Indiana USA was in serious trouble. Sales had dropped by more than 20 percent
and the year was closed with a loss of approximately $28 million for the
automotive division. Desperate measures had to be taken by the company to
survive, and it did. Unfortunately these measures weren't very effective and
Studebaker disappeared from the market altogether at the end of 1966.
Still, 1963 proved to be a key year for Studebaker with on one side the
introduction of the exotic sports coupe Avanti and on the other the closure of
the original South Bend production facilities in favor of the Studebaker
facilities in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada. In this tour you'll see the 1963
model range with which Studebaker tried desperately to survive, but didn't.
