2018 British Autojumble - Waalwijk (NL)

This is what a typical London taxi cab looked like before the first world war. Remarkably the French made Unic vehicles were among the most popular choices for British cabbies in those days, thanks to their dependability and durability. Hundreds of them roamed the streets of London, replacing the traditional horse drawn coaches.
Though Unic also offered luxury cars they made a name for themselves with commercial vehicles, with taxi cabs being an important part of the production line-up well into the 1920s. By 1938 Unic had abandoned car production to concentrate completely on manufacturing trucks.
This particular taxi is somewhat of a star of the screen: it has appeared in various movies and TV productions over the years, like in the popular Downton Abbey drama series (in episode 6 of the third season to be precise). Its exact provenance seems to be somewhat unclear. Apparently it's registered as being manufactured in 1912 but technically it seems to be a model C9F which was introduced in 1913.
