Vernon Derby 9 HP sports 1930
2018 Nationale Oldtimerdag - Lelystad (NL)

Derby was a French cyclecar and voiturette manufacturer located in Courbevoie and was in business between 1921 and 1936. They produced light cars with engines from other manufacturers in the style of Amilcar, Salmson and alike. Even though Derby has produced a decent amount of cars not many remain for some reason. As a result these cars are somewhat shrouded in obscurity.
Most Derby cars are probably extant in Britain where sales agent Vernon Balls sold the sporty underslung 9 HP model (which was the Derby 6 CV in France, powered by a 1100 cc 4-cylinder engine) as the Vernon Derby with some success as an open 2-seater or a closed "sportsman" coupe. In France Derby offered a wide variety of models with 4, 6 or even 8 cylinder engines, short or long chassis, either underslung ("surbaissé") or not. The few handfuls of cars that still exist today however are mostly sporty open 2-seaters like the car shown here and some stylish cabriolets.
