Fiat 500 Nuova Sport S1 1958
2015 Techno Classica - Essen (D)
In 1958 Fiat made a small batch of the new 500 especially for racing purposes. This Sport model distinguished itself by having a completely metal roof for extra rigidity (regular Fiat 500 had a roll-back roof). It also featured a bit more powerful 500 cc engine. Production was limited to only 50 cars. In 1959 a second series was introduced which had a partly open roof.
Later on producing racing specials of the 500 was left to the likes of Abarth and Giannini and no new versions of Fiat 500 Sport followed.
