Mitsubishi regarded this model as a small brother of the GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato, Italian for "Grand Tourer Homologized") and therefore named it FTO (Fresco Turismo Omologato, oddly translated into English by the company as "Fresh Touring Origination"). It was only available in Japan.
