This cute Italian car shows some American flair. But in a way it were Italian stylists who helped define the American style in the 1950s (like Ghia for Chrysler, Pininfarina for Nash and Cadillac, Touring for Hudson, etc.). In fact, the iconic American tail fins were invented by Italian designers (I think Giovanni Savonuzzi was the first with the Cisitalia 202 CMM Aerodinamico coupe in 1946, which inspired Franco Scaglione to design Bertone's Alfa Romeo BAT cars in the early 1950s).
So in a way it was a very natural combination, an Italian car with American glamour. But all that chrome made the car too heavy for the Fiat 500 technology underneath...
