Mercedes 230 S Universal by IMA 1967
2015 Antwerp Classic Salon - Antwerpen (B)

This is a coach-built and well-appointed station wagon with some nice details like wooden paneling in the cargo area. European station wagons were already introduced well before the war but until the 1980s Mercedes thought itself to be way above that. So external coachbuilders supplied the bodies for this niche.
In the 1950s it was Binz from Germany (best known for making ambulances) who made the "kombiwagen" for Mercedes. In the 1960s it was Belgian company IMA who created the Universal series of station wagons. In total 2754 were made, but only 336 were based on the expensive "S-class" 230 S.
