2018 Techno Classica - Essen (D)

By the late 1930s very little remained of the once prestigious French car manufacturer Chenard & Walcker. After a bankruptcy in 1936 the make was bought by pressed steel bodywork manufacturer Chausson. In 1937 two new models were introduced: the Aigle 22 (Type F22, in 1938 modified to F23/F24; 11 CV) and the larger, more luxurious Aigle 8 (Type U17; 21 CV). In fact they were assembled cars, where the body of the Matford Alsace (also made by Chausson), with some optic retouches, was matched to the 4 cylinder engine of the Citroen Traction Avant to create the Aigle 22. The Aigle 8 featured the Matford V8 engine. The main difference to the Matford was the independent suspension of the Chenard & Walcker models.
