Veritas 2 Liter Scorpion cabriolet by Spohn 1950
2018 Techno Classica - Essen (D)

Veritas was a short-lived but successful manufacturer of sport- and racing cars in Germany directly after WW2. Established by former BMW employees their cars were based upon the prewar BMW 328 2-Liter 6-cylinder engine and later on an alloy engine by Heinkel with similar dimensions. From 1949 Veritas attempted to enter the luxury car market with a range of elegant sports cars: the Comet roadster or hardtop coupe, the Saturn 2+2 coupe and the Scorpion 2+2 cabriolet. All models had a body made German coachbuilder Spohn from Ravensburg.
Unfortunately the financial situation in post-war Germany was much to fragile to support such exclusive cars and in November 1950 Veritas had to declare bankruptcy. From 1947 till 1950 only 78 cars were built in total, near half of them competition racing cars. Of the Scorpion model shown here, chassis 5091, about 7 were made.
