Abarth Simca 1300 GT Corsa by Beccaris 1962
2018 Antwerp Classic Salon - Antwerpen (B)

The Abarth Simca 1300 GT was a more muscular version of the Abarth (Fiat) Monomille. Based on the French Simca 1000 it featured a highly modified and enlarged 1288 cc 4-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts, producing 127 hp @ 7200 rpm. At only 630 kg it was extremely light weight and as a result it could reach a top speed of 230 kph in standard trim.
Introduced for the 1962 model year as the "round tail" version shown here, later models featured the longer, more aerodynamic "duck tail" rear ends. In racing trim the already potent engine produced an additional 20 hp, but unfortunately that version suffered reliability problems. Still it enjoyed some success in competition, for instance a class win in the 1963 Sebring 12 Hours race. Later that season it was replaced by the more reliable Abarth Simca 2000 GT.
This is chassis #130S-069.
