Fiat 8V Supersonic berlinetta by Ghia 1953
2018 InterClassics - Maastricht (NL)

One of my all time favorite designs is the Supersonic coupe styled by Giovanni Savonuzzi at Ghia. Savonuzzi was more of an engineer and aerodynamics expert but even the most gifted artist couldn't have outdone him on this design. It's the perfect example of jet-age styling, resembling a sci-fi fantasy spacecraft.
There were about 15 made on the Fiat 8V chassis, but it started out as bodywork for a Mille Miglia sportscar based on an Alfa Romeo 1900 C Sprint chassis built by Virgilio Conrero in 1953. As a racing car it wasn't successful but there were plenty customers for the bodystyle and subsequently Ghia built versions of it on Jaguar XK 120, Aston MartinV DB 2/4 and even an AC Cobra chassis, but the Fiat 8V was the most popular choice.
Apparently 10 Fiat 8V with original Supersonic bodywork have survived.
