2017 Concorso Italiano - Boxtel (NL)

This is an almost forgotten Italian car with British roots. Since 1960 Innocenti produced British Austin models in Italy, most famously the Innocenti Mini. But they also developed some original designs for the Italian market. Best known is the Innocenti Spider, based on the mechanics of the Austin Healey Sprite. In 1966 they introduced the Coupe, simply named C, based on the Spider.
It was powered by the 1100 cc 4-cylinder engine of the Mark 3 Sprite and meant to compete with cars like the Fiat 850 Sport. It wasn't very successful however, mainly because it was considerably more expensive than the competition since there was a lot of manual labor involved in producing these cars. So a little over 2 years after its introduction it disappeared from the market; only 795 coupes were made.
An odd feature of this model is its narrow track width, derived from the smaller Austin Healey Midget. It doesn't really show on these pictures, but the body is much wider than the distance between the front or rear wheels.
