Ferrari 512 BB LM competizione 1981
2017 Antwerp Classic Salon - Antwerpen (B)
The most brutal of all Berlinetta Boxers was the Le Mans racing version. After 4 privately modified 512 BB Le Mans cars were entered in the 1978 event, Ferarri built 25 Le Mans competzione cars from 1979 till 1982. The cars were improved each year, but hardly a match for the dominant Porsches. The best year for the 512 BB LM was 1981, when the IMSA GTX class victory was won in the famous 24 hour race. This car, chassis 35525, came in third in class that same year and finished ninth overall.
What I like best about this car though are its looks: long, wide and low with curves in all the right places. It's testosterone on four wheels, a look unfortunately lost on the sterile racing cars of today.
