Invicta 4.5 Litre S-type DHC by Salmons & Sons 1934
2017 InterClassics - Maastricht (NL)

This was the British super car at the time, the famed Invicta S-type. Fast and brutal, and usually seen with simple open sportscar bodywork. But here is one with a more elaborate drophead coupe body by Salmons & Sons, in an attractive two-tone paint job. Salmons & Sons was renamed Tickford after the War and was bought in 1955 by David Brown to produce bodies for Aston Martin and Lagonda.
The car shown here is chassis S131 "Sparrow Hawk" (they were often known by names as well as chassis numbers).
Salmons fitted many of their Drophead Coupé bodies with the patented "Tickford Winding Hood" mechanism to raise and lower the hood using a handle. This car probably has it too.
