Protos 10/30 PS Typ C racer 1920
2019 Classic Days Schloss Dyck - Aldenhoven (D)

One of the many forgotten German car manufacturers from the pre-war period is Protos. It was established as early as 1898 and became part of the sprawling Siemens concern. Protos gained a reputation for offering reliable and durable cars, which were also often a bit staid and slow.
The Type C was introduced in 1913 and became the single model available from Protos in the years to come. It featured a side-valve 4-cylinder engine of 2.6 liter displacement, producing 30 hp at only 1800 rpm. In standard trim the car could reach a top speed of around 75 kph. Even tough this performance doesn't seem very exiting it did inspire the more powerful competition car you see here; undoubtedly aimed at negating Protos' image for making slow cars.
In 1924 the Type C was updated to the 45 hp Type C1 and in 1926 Protos was sold to NAG, a car manufacturer which was part of the AEG concern, a direct competitor to Siemens. Unsurprisingly NAG phased out Protos production and by the end of 1927 Protos had disappeared from the market.
