Walter Treser is best known for engineering the original Audi Quattro but from 1982 he started modifying and constructing cars under his own name. In 1987 he unveiled the T1 roadster, a sporty car based on Volkswagen components with as most important gimmick a retractable roof. To promote the car a special Cup series was organized for the racing version, the TR1.
The T1 roadster never made it into production. Three prototypes were made, one as a coupe, and 22 TR1 Cup racers without the retractable roof. The car shown here is one of the prototype production cars.
