Triumph Dolomite 16 HP 2 Litre saloon 1937
2018 Nationale Oldtimerdag - Lelystad (NL)

The first Triumph production car with the name Dolomite appeared in 1937 and was a sporting saloon in the vein of the SS Jaguar. Most striking design element was the wonderful "waterfall" radiator shell designed by Walter Belgrove. It was available with either a 1.5 or 1.8 liter 4-cylinder engine or a 2 liter 6-cylinder. In 1938 the saloon was joined by a "roadster drophead coupe", a striking open luxury sports car and perhaps one of Triumph's most classic pre-war models. The Dolomite was produced up to 1940.
The car shown here is an early version, still with the slashed louvers on the sides of the bonnet. From August 1937 they were replaced by chromed chevrons. Apparently only 7 saloons with 2 Litre engine were made with this style of bonnet and this is the only surviving one.
